The Military Law Enforcement Service is a specialised law-enforcement formation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It maintains command control and discipline wherever the military operates: rules are followed, incidents are investigated and documented, and the rights of service members and civilians are protected.
VSP is not an outside inspector. It is an internal self-regulation mechanism of the force: the law is the baseline, and discipline is the foundation of combat effectiveness.
Core functions include preventing and detecting offences in units and on military sites, searching for personnel who have abandoned their posts, protecting military facilities against sabotage and terrorist attacks, securing Armed Forces property and military traffic, and enforcing lawful detention in guardhouses and the disciplinary battalion.
In martial law or a state of emergency the Service also takes part in countering enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, escorts prisoners of war, and helps enforce curfew in garrisons.
